A fresh satirical sketch by Indian digital entertainment business the station Girliyappa of The Viral Fever takes a hard-hitting look at marital rape in India through a spoof of the popular situation comedy How I Met Your Mother.

Titled How Your Mother was Raped by me, it takes the kind of a family area discussion where the troubled protagonist Devika tells her family that her husband has been driving himself on her. The family pressurises her move on and to accept it blows off her concerns, and then. The video runs on the sitcom-style laughter track to highlight the family's nonchalant attitude towards consent and rape.

The video comes in the midst of an ongoing legal debate on marital rape, which is just not considered to be a criminal offence in India. There are numerous arguments in favour of such a law, with a 2014 study by the International Centre for Women and United Nations Population Fund implying that one-third of the surveyed men had "acknowledged to forcing a sexual act on their wives".
