The remedy is not rocket science.
At least that's what Stephen Hawking believes.
In a new advertisement for Swedish health organisation Genpep, the acclaimed physicist offers another of his blunt warnings about the risks to mankind.
He is already stressed that humankind must find another planet to occupy as it's fast destroying this one and that we will be hated by aliens, that they'll destroy us.
His concern is indeed more fundamental. He says countless lives have been in danger.
"Now too lots of people die from complications related to being overweight and obesity. We eat too much and move too little," he says.
"Luckily, the remedy is uncomplicated," says Hawking in the advertising. "More physical action and change in diet. It is not rocket science." The advertisement suggests 30 minutes of exercise a day for 60 minutes for children and adults.
Hawking appears bemused this issue continues to be so difficult to manage. "For what it's worth, how being sedentary has become a serious health problem is beyond my comprehension," he says.
Curiously, I find it simple to understand.
We create increasingly more things that motivate us to sit and stare at displays. We make it harder and more challenging for children in school to work out. We drive people to work longer and longer hours until all they want to do weep, eat, drink, home and sleep.
We've even created without getting from your auto, mailboxes that can be used.
The advertisement says that physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death in the worlds. As we're carrying out a wonderful job of it ourselves if aliens do come by to say hello, I wonder when they will even believe we are worth ruining.
